ABOUT US

Óbidos Adventures was born from a simple idea: that the best travel memories aren’t made in crowded souvenir shops or long lines—they’re made out in nature, sharing real moments with real people.
We believe that discovering a new country should be about connection, not consumption. That’s why we invite you to leave the tourist trail behind and explore the wild beauty, hidden corners, and untold stories just beyond the walls of Óbidos.
Our hikes are more than just walks—they’re immersive journeys through ancient landscapes, peaceful streams, forgotten ruins, and stunning viewpoints that most visitors never see. Whether you’re traveling solo, as a couple, or with friends, this is your chance to slow down, breathe deeper, and create meaningful memories far from the crowds.
So come join us. Trade the shopping bags for hiking boots, and experience Portugal the way it was meant to be—authentic, alive, and unforgettable.

Meet the Team Behind the Best Hiking Trails of Óbidos

Lu Muniz Spencer

Lu Muniz Spencer’s passion for the outdoors began early during her childhood in Brazil. As a teenager, she competed professionally in bodyboarding and won several national competitions. At 18, she moved to Europe for a year and eventually found herself in Portugal, where she experienced what would become one of the most memorable periods of her life. It was 1989, and Portugal’s surf scene was just emerging, and she was captivated by the natural beauty and uncrowded waves of the country. When she left, she carried with her a deep and lasting connection to Portugal.

Sean Spencer

Sean Spencer grew up in Southern California, where his love for surfing took root at an early age. As an exchange student, he learned Portuguese—a skill that helped launch a career in international affairs and ultimately led to meeting his wife, Lucianna, with whom he has shared 35 years. Though he remains a dedicated surfer in Portugal, Sean has also spent many years hiking, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and practicing yoga. Before relocating to Portugal, the Spencer family explored the beaches and mountains of the Western United States, logging hundreds of hiking miles together.

Our Family

A year after returning from Europe, Lu traveled to California to compete in bodyboarding events. While riding the legendary waves at Trestles in Southern California, she met Sean—and what began as a shared adventure turned into a lifelong partnership. Nearly 35 years, several international moves, three children, a menagerie of pets, three Master’s degrees, and countless joyful (and a few heartbreaking) moments later, their bond remains strong. Now, they’ve opened a new chapter together in Portugal. And this time, it’s a true family affair—Nick and Marianna, two of their children, are joining them in this exciting journey.
